Community Foundation supports Fox Cities NEA Big Read

The Fox Cities Book Festival is excited to bring renowned, best-selling author Patricia Engel to Appleton Friday, April 5th at 6:30 p.m., for a presentation that’s sure to unite the community and spark important conversations.

The festival is grateful to the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region for a $2,500 Community Vision Fund grant that supports this year’s Fox Cities NEA Big Read.

The objective of the Fox Cities NEA Big Read is to create an experience of “one community, one book.” Through this, the community comes together to read, think, talk, listen and grow.

This year’s book, “Infinite Country,” speaks to the festival’s commitment to furthering understanding of diverse perspectives and experiences within our communities. It follows a family in their effort to find “home.” The themes within the book are universal and relatable.

In the months ahead, community members are invited to read the book and take part in free programming.

Highlighted events include:

  • Two art workshops in February, “Neo Medina ~ Loteria: A Game of Community Created Through Our Own Stories” offered at the Trout Museum in Appleton.
  • A poetry workshop in March, “Poetry After Dark Featuring Brenda E. Cardenas ~ Latinx Ekphrasis: Poems Inspired by Visual Art” offered at the Menasha Public Library.

Immigrant Journeys

  • “Immigrant Journeys from South of the Border,” an exhibit now on display at the Kimberly Public Library, will travel to the Kaukauna Public Library in February and then the Menasha Public Library in March. The exhibit is presented by the National Endowment of the Arts, the Fox Cities Book Festival and Wisconsin Humanities.
  • Finally, book discussions will be offered at local libraries. To view the schedule, visit foxcitiesbookfestival.org/upcoming-events.
