Grant brings Celebrations Around the World to families this month

Posted on Dec 2, 2020, by

Looking for something to do with children this month? Building for Kids in downtown Appleton is spending December exploring celebrations from around the world by offering four different small group programs as well as a take-home family activity kit that allows families to travel the world without leaving the Fox Valley. The unique program is sponsored by a grant from the Bright Idea Fund within the Community Foundation, and includes these activities and dates:

Celebrations Around the World Programs:

Musical Monoprint Cards – December 2 – 6

    • Join Building for Kids for some musical print making. Learn about monoprints and create your own card using this technique while listening to festive music.

Celebration Stamping Cards – December 9 – 13

    • Make your own greeting card and experiment with different types of stamps and ink. Learn about some properties of paper, create a greeting card and make a stamp to take home.

Fabric Greeting Card – December 16 – 20

    • Learn about different textiles and make a greeting card out of fabric! Explore collage, weaving and layering while making a one-of-a-kind gift.

Building into the New Year – December 23 – January 3

    • After looking at different architecture from around the world, design and build your own structures and create a wishing wall with our hopes and dreams for 2021.

Celebrations Around the World Family Activity Kit:

Wednesdays and Saturdays in December

    • Brighten up this winter with light-inspired projects! Design a paper luminary, conduct a light experiment using different materials, paint vibrant fireworks, and craft sparkling circle sweets from around the world.

Register for a Celebrations Around the World Activity Kit. In small group programs, families participate in a facilitated activity from their own designated workstation distanced from other households. Family activity kits contain the instructions and supplies for four projects and are available for pick-up outside the Building for Kids. Registration is required for programs and kits.

Building for Kids has been so incredible during this Covid shutdown. They were early adopters of an online platform and have done AMAZING work connecting families to activities and educational opportunities. What a wonderful idea to celebrate the holidays. Bravo to all!
