Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra Video Series Highlights Local Nonprofits

The “Amplify Our Signal” series started Friday, September 18. Videos with leaders from local nonprofit organizations and musical performers will be available on the Fox valley Symphony Orchestra’s YouTube channel.

By Jamie LaFreniere, Executive Director, Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra

Dr. Yuliya Smead plays viola/violin with FVSO. She is also the adjunct professor of violin at UW-Oshkosh and teaches at the Lawrence Community Music School.

The Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra is giving the microphone to area nonprofit organizations in a special video series called “Amplify Our Signal.” I interview leaders from local nonprofits and do a check-in to see how they are managing during the COVID-19 shutdown, and to see how the community is able to help these organizations at this time.

As part of the video, one of the orchestra’s musicians plays a piece of music dedicated to each organization and helps to tell the story of their mission.

In the first video of the series, Jamie LaFreniere, Executive Director of Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra, connects virtually with Curt Detjen, President and CEO of the Community Foundation.

Organizations interviewed include the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region, Boys & Girls Club, Fox Valley Humane Society, Building for Kids, and many more. Check out the first video – the Community Foundation’s!  First, I interviewed Curt Detjen, President and CEO, and then Dr. Yuliya Smead performs at the end. Definitely watch the entire video!

Other videos will be available on the FVSO YouTube channel, The series started Friday, September 18.
