Conversations with difference makers

Posted on Sep 5, 2014, by

Since May, I’ve hosted 18 Community Conversations on behalf of your Community Foundation that have aired on the nonprofit radio station 91.1 The Avenue and appear on its website.

These 15-minute shows focus on concerns in our community we are addressing, and highlight people, businesses and nonprofit organizations that are giving back through us to help others. I’m amazed by and proud of the many caring people who are working together to make good things happen in our community! Each weekend a new show focuses on something related to a monthly topic.

Past topics include:

•    Creating a Dementia-Friendly Community
•    Healthy Weight, Healthy Community
•    Environmental Sustainability: What, Why How?
•    The Arts and Community Life

This month’s topic is Difference Makers: People who give to and through your CommunitAR treey Foundation to make the places where we live better for all, forever.

This weekend I talk with Cathy Mutschler, Director of Giving & Community Engagement with U.S. Venture about the U.S. Venture Open, the largest charity golf outing in Wisconsin. It benefits the Basic Needs Giving Partnership – one of the Community Foundation’s largest grant programs. I catch up with Liz Bellile, a teenager featured in our 2013 Report to the Community, who provided the tree painting on the cover and told about mental health services she received at Catalpa Health, a BNGP grant recipient.

Listen to Community Conversations at 7 a.m. Saturdays and 8 p.m. Sundays, and online anytime at avenueradio.com/cc.

Tammy Williams is Vice President Marketing & Communications with the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region and host of Community Conversations on 91.1 The Avenue. Connect with her by email or on LinkedIn.
