Fox Cities, Calumet County Relay For Life Events Light up Trails

Posted on Jun 2, 2021, by

Luminaria bags will light up a trail on Loop the Little Lake this month, each one representing a life touched by cancer.

By Heather Krawinkel, senior development manager, American Cancer Society in Northeast Wisconsin

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest fundraising event to fight every cancer in every community. Rallying the passion of more than 4 million people around the world, funds raised help the Society make progress in finding cures and removing barriers for people facing the disease.

Relay For Life fuels the mission of the American Cancer Society, an organization that touches the lives of so many – those who are battling cancer, those who may face a diagnosis, and those who may avoid a diagnosis altogether thanks to education, prevention, and early detection.

Fox Cities Relay cancer survivors in 2019

During this trail walk we will represent everyone touched by cancer with a luminaria. Each light represents a life: a life taken by cancer, a survivor of cancer, or a support for a person still fighting the disease. It’s a powerful demonstration that gives people the opportunity to grieve but also offers comfort and hope.

Join us this year as we light up the trail at two local events:

– Light up a portion of the Loop the Little Lake from Cook Park to Herb & Dolly Smith Park in Neenah from June 11, 6pm – 8pm.

We wouldn’t be able to have local events like this one if it wasn’t for the community support we receive. The George & Gussie Balck and Arthur & Mary Leske Charitable Fund within the Community Foundation has been such a generous supporter of this event, and the American Cancer Society, for many years. We’re so grateful for their involvement.
