$31,260 in grants awarded from Shawano Area Community Foundation

The Boys and Girls Club of Shawano is one of 16 grant recipients.


Our affiliate, the Shawano Area Community Foundation, has approved $31,260 in grants from its Shawano Area Fund to 16 charitable organizations serving people in Shawano County.

The Shawano Area Fund is an endowment that accepts donations of any amount to be used to provide annual grants. The Foundation’s volunteer committee selects grant recipients through a competitive application process each fall. The grant dollars come from the endowment fund and proceeds from the Foundation’s annual Harvest Moon Soirée fundraising event.

The Shawano Area Community Foundation announced grant recipients in late December:

Boys & Girls Club of Shawano – To provide after-school childcare during the five-week summer school program to offer working parents a low-cost, safe, fun and character-building option for care. Amount awarded: $2,500

Bridge the Gap, Inc.

Bridge the Gap, Inc. – To support ten children on the autism spectrum with middle school mentoring. Amount awarded: $1,940

Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin – Fox Valley – To provide food donations to 11 food pantries in Shawano County, increasing access to free and healthy food for food-insecure families in the area. Amount awarded: $2,000

First Presbyterian Church – To provide financial assistance for families seeking childcare through the Kids Klub daycare program. Amount awarded: $1,500

Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes, Inc. – To provide leadership development programming and financial assistance to current and future area Girl Scouts. Amount awarded: $1,000

Junior Achievement of Wisconsin – Wolf River Region District – To provide general operating support for ongoing Junior Achievement programming for K-12 students in participating schools in Shawano and Menominee counties. Amount awarded: $1,500

Lutheran Counseling & Family Services of Wisconsin – To support mental health counseling sessions for Shawano-area clients who are unable to pay the full cost of treatments. Amount awarded: $1,500

Mission of Hope House of Wisconsin – To support 24/7/365 shelter operations. Amount awarded: $1,000

Northeast Wisconsin Technical College Educational Foundation – To provide financial support for educational expenses of Shawano-area students who are single parents. Amount awarded: $2,500

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Wisconsin – To sponsor a guest room at the Ronald McDonald House for a Shawano County family for a period of two months. Amount awarded: $2,000

Safe Haven Domestic Abuse Support Center – To finish the children’s playroom in the basement of the shelter which will offer them a safe place to play and learn while they heal from the trauma of domestic violence or sexual assault. Amount awarded: $3,535

Tigerton School District’s chicken coop

Shawano Area Matthew 25 – To purchase portable technology equipment which will be used for educational programming. Amount awarded: $3,535

Shawano County Historical Society – To enable off-site speaking engagements, portable museum boxes and an oral history project. Amount awarded: $1,500

The FRESH Project – To provide a series of cooking classes and educational activities to the homeless, elderly, and low-income children and families. Amount awarded: $1,500

Tigerton School District – To expand the Tigerton School District’s chicken coop used in educational programming. Amount awarded: $1,250

Wescott EMS – To help purchase a side-by-side UTV unit which will be used to reach patients in hard to reach areas. Amount awarded: $2,500


The Shawano Area Community Foundation was established in 1990 by community volunteers to preserve and improve the quality of life in Shawano and the surrounding area.
