The Building for Kids

When The Building for Kids holds its third annual Diversity Discovery Free Day noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, it also will kick off a community art project that will celebrate diversity all year long.

The Discovering our Diversity Community Art Project — made possible by a grant from the Bright Idea Fund within the Community Foundation — will start its journey at The Building for Kids and travel to a number of diversity-focused events throughout the community.

The artwork will be created in partnership with the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass and local artists and will incorporate glass fusing, mosaic and collage to create a unified piece representing everyone’s uniqueness.

Diversity Discovery Free Day — also supported by a grant from the Bright Idea Fund —  is a collaboration among The Building for Kids, Celebrate Diversity Fox Cities, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and more than a dozen local nonprofit and community groups. The event will create opportunities for children and families from a wide range of backgrounds to share, appreciate and create together to increase their understanding of each other. In addition to the Community Foundation, this event is supported by Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and the Mielke Family Foundation.

The two grants — for the free-admission day and the art project — total $4,500.
