Brillion family creates scholarship for students pursuing trades

Jarred Ellman and his family found their way to Brillion in 2014, a long way from what used to be home – Mason City, Iowa. When he graduated from high school in 1999, he found there wasn’t a lot of financial assistance available for technical school students like himself.

“Looking back to when I was finishing up school, there wasn’t much financial aid geared towards the trades alone,” said Ellman. “We, my wife and I, wanted to try to give a hand to those going into these fields.”

The Ellmans created the Ellman Family Trades Scholarship Fund. Brillion High School seniors can apply if they are heading on to education in the trades: HVAC, maintenance, welding, electrical, construction, plumbing, mechanic, etc. They are chosen by the BHS Scholarship Selection Committee. Each year one student receives a one-year, non-renewable gift of $750.

Jarred Ellman and his family are residents of Brillion, and he is the owner of Fuhrmann Plumbing, Heating and Cooling.

Through the generosity of people, businesses and organizations passionate about helping students achieve their education dreams, we have more than $1 million in scholarships available each year to students from 60 schools, available for high school seniors, college and nontraditional students and K-12 art and music camps and lessons.  See the Scholarship Recipient List for 2020 – 21, and learn more about creating a scholarship fund.
