Community foundations braced for storm relief

Hurricane Florence’s only effect on the Fox Valley is going to be a week of warm weather, but warm wishes undoubtedly will flow back from our donors to storm victims in the Carolinas and surrounding states.

You can use reliable relief agencies like the American Red Cross or Salvation Army or work through a community foundation in the region. The following North Carolina community foundations have established special disaster relief funds and are accepting tax-deductible donations from the public.

Foundation for the Carolinas has created the Hurricane Florence Response Fund to support those affected by the unprecedented storm. Donations to the Fund will be directed to nonprofits in North and South Carolina providing relief to victims. Grants will be distributed to areas of greatest need once the full impact of the hurricane is realized. Credit card donations can be made online through the Foundation’s Web site. For more information, please contact FFTC at (704) 973-4500.

North Carolina Community Foundation has re-activated its statewide Disaster Relief Fund to support relief efforts related to Hurricane Florence. The fund will support nonprofits with programs that help hurricane victims in North Carolina. All funds will go directly to nonprofit organizations serving the needs of local individuals and communities in the affected areas of North Carolina. Credit card donations can be made online through the NCCF Web site. Checks can also be mailed to the NCCF’s office at 3737 Glenwood Avenue, Suite 460, Raleigh, NC 27612.  Please designate your gift for Disaster Relief. For more information, please contact NCCF at (919) 828-4387.

The Outer Banks Community Foundation established the Disaster Relief Fund to assist individuals and families across Dare County who are affected by Hurricane Florence.
