Executive assistant learned charity from ‘Gram’

Meet Debra McIntire, our new executive assistant, who is supporting our President and CEO Curt Detjen and supervising our team of administrative professionals. Debra previously worked for more than five years as an executive assistant to Becky Tuchscherer-Group President of Commercial Welding at Miller Electric. Prior to that she spent 10 years in the financial industry. Debra succeeds Linda Heckel, who retired in April.

Hello! My name is Debra McIntire and I am Curt Detjen’s new assistant. I am very excited to work side-by-side with such an amazing team here at the Community Foundation.

Living in the Fox Valley has been wonderful. I grew up in Chicago, where everything moves at super speed. I have come to love the calmer lifestyle that Neenah brings to my life. In my free time I love to quilt, play in my gardens and spend time with family and friends.

My interest in charitable work, such as what we support here at the Community Foundation, comes from my grandmother. She grew up during the Great Depression, and made sure that her grandchildren knew the importance of helping those in need. She taught us that not only did it help others, but it also helped us grow to be better people. Volunteering with organizations like Habitat for Humanity, United Way, Junior Achievement and others along the way have only enhanced what Gram started when I was a little.

Over the years, I have used the skills she taught me about sewing to find my small way of giving back to the community here in the Fox Valley. I am honored to be part of the Darting Needles Quilt Guild and the donations of handmade quilts to organizations throughout our region – from Harbor House to the Homeless Connections to single moms.

Closest to my heart is the awarding of quilts to our veterans. At our 2016 quilt show, we honored 15 vets in recognition of the 15th anniversary of 9/11. We had vets going back to WWII and as recent as our currently deployed soldiers. We were honored by the men and women who served and their stories of courage and sacrifice.

Working for the Community Foundation is such an incredible opportunity. I just know Gram is looking down and smiling. Giving back to the community every single day — what a great way to spend the work day.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you.
