Churchills to discuss great-grandfather today

“Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak;
courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.”

A program supported by the Community Foundation will give people an opportunity to explore the latter part of that Winston Churchill quote, when two of the great wartime British prime minister’s great-grandchildren visit Appleton May 13.

Randolph and Jennie Churchill will deliver a free and public presentation on their famous ancestor, 3 p.m. at Fox Valley Lutheran High School, Meade Street and County JJ. The presentation in the 900-seat theater will be recorded by Wisconsin Public Television for later broadcast. The Churchills will be introduced by Laurence Geller, who chairs the International Churchill Society.

Grants from the Boldt Family Fund and a Community Foundation grant from unrestricted funds made the appearance possible.

Winston Churchill has been the subject of several presentations in the Fox Cities because of the interest of donors Dr. Monroe and Sandra Trout.

Another famous Churchill quote describes our donors’ involvement:

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”
