Brillion Foundation joins Brillion Area Family of Funds

Brillion Iron Works’ 65-year tradition of charitable giving in the community will continue with the Board of Directors of the Brillion Foundation Inc. deciding to transfer its giving to a charitable fund within the Community Foundation’s Brillion Area Family of Funds.
The Brillion Iron Works Fund will support the community giving started in 1953 by the late R.D. Peters, a longtime general manager, owner and president of the Brillion Iron Works.  Local churches, a scholarship for the Brillion High School salutatorian, city projects, the Brillion Fire Department, the Boy Scouts, and other youth and civic groups were recipients of past donations.

With the closing of the Brillion Iron Works in 2016, the current Brillion Foundation Board members — Betty Nies, Jerry Kellrooney, Julie Malliett and Ken Wagner — were searching for a way to continue to support the community and maintain the legacy of the Brillion Iron Works and the Brillion Foundation.

“We are community-oriented and want to continue to provide support for the community as long as we can through the Foundation,”  Nies said.  “We looked for an avenue to preserve the long history of community support by the Brillion Iron Works and R.D. Peters. The Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region — and specifically its Brillion Area Family of Funds — was the right fit for us and will allow us to provide gifts to the community long into the future.”

The Brillion Area Family of Funds was established within the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region in 2013 as a collection of charitable funds to actively preserve, strengthen and improve the quality of life in the Brillion area.
