Legacies run on will power

Posted on Jul 17, 2014, by

SpendingOurChildrensInheritancePlateLargeA good friend and former colleague recently shared a plaque that reads: “Where there’s a will, I want to be in it.”  That may have been a younger generation’s response to a bumper sticker – popular among retirees – that proclaims: “I’m spending my kids’ inheritance!”

Donors to the Community Foundation have found many creative ways to share their legacy of philanthropy with loved ones.  Some have created multiple generations of donor advised funds, encouraging children, grandchildren and beyond to play an active role in ch
aritable giving.

Other donors have named a family member or trusted friend as a successor advisor, as part of a post-lifetime succession plan.  By doing so, they’ve shared not only a gift to support a cause, but also their passion for philanthropy.

The Community Foundation celebrates donors who have included gifts that will take effect after lifetime by offering them membership in the Himebaugh Legacy Circle.  We recognize during life, those donors whose estate plans include new gifts or additions to existing funds.

We’re grateful to have the opportunity to show and share in the community’s appreciation during their lifetimes.  Visit cffoxvalley.org/legacy to learn more about sharing your news of planned gifts.
