Heckrodt Wetland Reserve Project

"The World Above your Feet"   Children's Canopy Walk

“If getting our kids out into nature is a search for perfection, or is one more chore, then the belief in perfection and the chore defeats the joy. It’s a good thing to learn more about nature in order to share this knowledge with children; it’s even better if the adult and child learn about nature together. And it’s a lot more fun.”

~ Richard Louv, Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder

Imagine a boardwalk and nature classroom up in the trees!

Youth can soon explore a whole new world with a bird’s-eye view. Heckrodt Wetland Reserve has unveiled plans for a nature canopy walk to help you observe “The World Above Your Feet.” Visitors of all ages will learn how to spot the beauty and habits of animals, trees, migratory birds and more.

Now imagine that classroom accessible for ALL.

Environmental literacy should be available to everyone! This project will be designed to give those with challenges of any kind, from financial to physical, to access this learning opportunity.
