Census 2020

Participating in the 2020 US Census is easy, safe and important!

The Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region, United Way Fox Cities, and Appleton Public Library are partnering to support local nonprofits and community organizations in advance of the beginning of the US Census in March 2020.

NEW: Apply for a 2020 Census Mini Grant

Why? This is the first time the census will be conducted mostly online, and census results are used to:

  • target more than $675 billion in federal funds to states/counties for programs that support local residents
  • guide community decision-making affecting schools, housing, health care, emergency services and more
  • allocate seats and draw district lines for the U.S. House of Representatives and state and congressional districts

Census 2020 PSA Video:

We wish to ensure that every person in the Fox Valley is counted, in particular, members of what the Census Bureau refers to as “hard to count” populations. These include older adults, young children, racial and ethnic minorities, non-English speakers, people experiencing homelessness, and people with mental or physical disabilities to name a few.

Census 2020 Resources

We have been gathering input from our nonprofit partners on what tools and resources are needed to empower them to promote the census to their constituents, and will use this information to create a process to consider small grant awards to boost your census outreach this spring.

For more information about the 2020 Census and useful tools and tips curated specifically for local nonprofits, check out the Appleton Public Library’s Census page.

Did You Know? The U.S. Census Bureau is recruiting to fill hundreds of thousands of temporary positions across the country to assist with the 2020 Census count. Apply or refer friends: 2020census.gov/en/jobs
