Community Foundation Celebrates Another Momentous Year in Giving

Our Annual Report to the Community is here, and we could not be more excited! The Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region awarded a record $30.8 million in grants to more than 1,200 nonprofit organizations, taking the total grants awarded in our 33-year history to $326 million.

For the fiscal year 2019, which ended June 30, the grants total includes a record $1.36 million in scholarships from 203 scholarship funds awarded to 436 students from 60 high schools.

“The Foundation is all about serving people who want to help other people, and it is humbling to play the role we play to make this region the special place it is,” says Curt Detjen, president and CEO. “This is a milestone year, celebrating more than $30 million in grants given from charitable funds in the Foundation.”

The Community Foundation helps people, businesses and organizations make a difference by supporting nonprofits working on the causes they care about most, during and after their lifetimes. Donors create charitable funds with the Foundation that award grants to nonprofit organizations across the Fox Valley region and beyond.

“The Community Foundation helps donors, professional advisors and nonprofit organizations make a huge difference in our community for current and future generations,” says Jon Stellmacher, Board Chair. “By serving as a knowledge resource, catalyst, partner, convenor, mentor and investor, the Foundation is making our community stronger, now and forever.”

The Foundation’s 1,644 charitable funds under management total $444 million in assets and received $33 million in contributions.

“We are so blessed by the way our generous Fox Valley residents invest to improve our whole community,” Detjen says. “There is no end to the challenges and needs to be met, but we are fortunate to live in a special place where people really do care about one another.”

The Community Foundation was created in 1986 with $5,000 Walter L. Rugland received as part of the first Community Service Award given by Aid Association for Lutherans (now Thrivent Financial), where he had been president, CEO and chairman. The Foundation is the second-largest certified community foundation in Wisconsin, and among the top 10 percent nationwide.
