The Community Foundation received 100 CPR Anytime kits from the American Heart Association valued at $40 each, thanks to a grant from The George & Gussie Balck and Art and Mary Leske Charitable Fund within the Community Foundation. Many nonprofit organizations in the Fox Valley will receive these gifts to train teams to respond to cardiac emergencies.
“We want to make bystanders ‘try’-standers, or people who start CPR and try to save a life!”
Kelli VanderWielen, development director for the American Heart Association, enthusiastically encouraged many local nonprofits leaders as she and Megan Mulholland, director of marketing and communications for the Community Foundation, stopped by several local nonprofit organizations, giving them free CPR Anytime kits on Tuesday.
“It was a pleasant surprise to receive the CPR Kit for training purposes for our staff,” says Samantha Wederath, assistant branch director of the Boys & Girls Club of Menasha. “These kits will enhance our training and knowledge to better serve our members and community. Thank you to the American Heart Association and the Community Foundation for this generous gift.”
“What a great surprise to get back to the office after setting up for our golf outing to find Megan from the Community Foundation and Kelli with the American Heart Association at the Chamber office delivering gifts!” says Kelli Clussman, executive director Heart of the Valley Chamber of Commerce. “With a donation from a fund at the Community Foundation, the American Heart Association is able to provide CPR kits to help learn, practice and share! We are looking forward to partnering with the American Heart Association for some upcoming CPR training for our Chamber Members.”
Thanks to a fund within the Community Foundation – The George & Gussie Balck and Art and Mary Leske Charitable Fund – the Community Foundation is a “Healthy for Good” sponsor for the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association.
Through this sponsorship, the Community Foundation received 100 CPR Anytime kits, which are valued at $40 each. Nonprofit organizations who would like one of the free kits should email Kelli. In addition, affiliate foundations for the Community Foundation in Clintonville, Shawano, Waupaca and Chilton will each donate 10 kits to schools, churches, nonprofits or businesses in their areas.
A CPR Anytime kit contains everything people need to learn the lifesaving skills of CPR, AED awareness, and choking relief in about 20 minutes. The kits can be used to train small groups and community organizations. They are for anyone who wants to learn basic lifesaving resuscitation skills and does not need a course completion card to meet a job requirement.
This self-directed, personal learning program is an all-in-one solution that includes everything people will need to complete high-quality training anywhere. Skills are taught with the AHA’s research-proven practice-while-watching technique, which allows people to practice on a manikin while observing a demonstration of the skills in the video.
Each kit contains:
- 1 bilingual Adult & Child CPR Anytime DVD
- 1 Mini Anne® CPR personal manikin
- 1 bilingual Skills Reminder Card
- 1 Mini Anne replacement lung
- Manikin wipes
“The CPR Anytime kits provide an amazing opportunity to learn a life-saving skill for so many in the Fox Valley. At the American Heart Association, we focus on being a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives and CPR is a critical part of that mission,” VanderWielen says. “We are so happy to work alongside the Community Foundation to create as many lifesavers as we can in our communities.”
June 1-7 is National CPR and AED Awareness Week, but the month spotlights how lives can be saved if more Americans know CPR and how to use an AED. This campaign reinforces these skills but also places importance on the willingness of bystanders to act in a cardiac arrest emergency. Did you know about 70 percent of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen in homes? If you are called on to give CPR in an emergency, you will most likely be trying to save the life of someone you love. Be the difference for your parent, spouse, or child. What if it were them?
