Brick-by-brick, Navarino Nature Center builds playscape

By Tim Ewing, Director/Naturalist, Navarino Nature Center

Navarino Nature CenterNavarino Nature Center in Shiocton is creating a new natural playscape designed to get children outdoors exploring the wonders of nature. Natural playscapes are interactive play areas that use natural items (music, art, water, trees, etc.) to offer endless possibilities for running, jumping, exploring and discovery in an outdoor play area adjacent to the nature center. We’re excited to complete the project soon.

Construction began in July thanks in part to a $2,000 grant from the Clintonville Area Foundation, and in the weeks ahead we are building an otter slide, sundial, hop-scotch, hide-out, drawing area, stump game table, and a music area.

These funds are being matched by donors who are purchasing engraved bricks that will go on the path through the playscape.

The playscape provides a safe environment for young children to explore the wonders of nature at their level.  Through engaging play, children will learn skills such as survival basics, how to tell time by shadows, and animal adaptations. For more information, email the Navarino Nature Center or visit our website.
