The letters are from many of the 330 students that were awarded $1.06 million in scholarships supported by our donors. The assistance came from 156 charitable funds established by individuals, businesses and other organizations with the Community Foundation. Most support high school graduates going on to college, but the total includes scholarships for students already in college, two-year colleges and technical schools and even summer art and music camps for younger students.
A common thread through them is the appreciation expressed by the recipients in their letters to us. Here are excerpts.
“In the fall I will be attending UW-La Crosse to study marketing, and your gift will make my journey much easier.” (Kaukauna Alumni Foundation Scholarship recipient)
“Thank you for helping to create a wonderful first year of college for me.” (Susan Drewek Scholarship recipient)
“This was a scholarship that made me feel like I was, in fact, not too old to be looking for a little assistance with tuition. … I feel very honored and will work my hardest to prove myself a worthy choice.” (Wisconsin Women’s Alliance Foundation Scholarship recipient)
“Your generous contribution to my education has been essential to my success. I will always be grateful to you for your assistance.” (Waupaca Area Community Foundation Donald G. Brunner Education Scholarship recipient)
“By awarding me this scholarship, you have lightened my financial burden, which allows me to focus on my goal of being a nurse.” (John A. and Karen K. Zeinert Nursing Scholarship recipient)
“It really meant a lot to me that someone was on my side, and saw that I had a bright future despite my past.” (Circle of Hope Scholarship recipient)
Lists of scholarships available to graduates of 60 schools are listed at www.cffoxvalley.org/scholarships. Scholarship selections are based on anything from merit, need, the choice of a college, an area of study, the high school the applicant attends and other factors.
