New website connects to mental health resources

Fox Cities residents in need of mental health and substance abuse services for themselves or a loved one now have a path to many resources just a mouse click away.

The coalition Northeast Wisconsin Mental Health Connection has brought together providers from Outagamie, Calumet and Winnebago counties to offer information on available services at MyConnectionNEW.org. A website user can do everything from researching a mental health topic to taking an anonymous mental health screening to locating a therapist.

The site also offers tips on choosing a mental health provider and legislative updates. It operates under the “no wrong door” philosophy that gets potential clients to the right services no matter where they first contact a coalition member.

Development of the website was supported by a grant from the Basic Needs Giving Partnership. The grant program is supported by the U.S. Venture Fund for Basic Needs within the Community Foundation with proceeds from the U.S. Venture Open golf outing, the J. J. Keller Foundation and other community partners.

Key information was provided by United Way Fox Cities’ 2-1-1 24-hour information and support line. There is an ongoing cost of $30,000 per year to maintain the site, which the Connection hopes to fund through grants or membership fees.
