Next stop for Rock the Block is Kaukauna

Rock the Block will roll into Kaukauna this spring, taking its volunteer-powered home repair juggernaut into the Fassbender Park neighborhood.

The Kaukauna event is scheduled for May 1-6. Fassbender is a small, triangular park on Crooks Avenue (Hwy 55) just south of the Fox River and adjacent to the former F&M Bank headquarters. The area to be included in Rock the Block is 10 by 12 city blocks large. According to Ryan Roth, community development manager for Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Fox Cities Region, about a dozen projects are already lined up.

This will be the third year of a three-year, $300,000 Community Leadership Initiative grant the Community Foundation awarded to Habitat to get the program started.

Rock the Block brings volunteers into a neighborhood to do home maintenance, accessibility and safety improvements for homeowners in need, in a blitz over several days. Previous Rock the Block campaigns have spruced up the Appleton neighborhood surrounding the former Pierce Manufacturing site on Spencer Street, the Downtown West neighborhood of Neenah and Menasha’s Jefferson Park area.

Habitat board member Kathi Seifert said at a recent informational meeting that the local Habitat chapter is getting national attention for its efforts. She encouraged attendees to not only volunteer and support the Kaukauna event, but also to contribute financially to meeting the financial needs of completed and future events.
