Cynthia and Dr. Roy Holly
Dr. Roy and Cynthia Holly's summer cottage near Waupaca was at the center of their family life as his medical and university career took them around the country. Now the lake property is the centerpiece of their charitable legacy. They donated the land on Long Lake in 2005 to the Community Real Estate and Personal Property Foundation, a supporting organization of the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region that accepts and sells real estate, privately held stock and other property. It turns the proceeds over to a charitable fund in the donor's name within the Community Foundation.
The Holly's land sale will benefit the Dr. Roy and Cynthia Holly Family Foundation Fund within the Waupaca Area Community Foundation, an affiliate of the CFFVR. The property had multiplied many times in value since the Hollys bought the first piece in 1952. Donating the land to the nonprofit foundation meant the transaction was not subject to capital gains tax, and the Hollys were happy to turn the details of the sale over to the Foundation.
Dr. Holly has since passed away, but their gift will continue to help the community where his family shared such good times.
