Donors  ::  Resources  ::  Survey of Nonprofits and the Economy

Curt Detjen,

The Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region's 2008 Survey of Nonprofits and the Economy provided insight into the challenges, fears and hopes of the local nonprofit sector at that time.

With these organizations having endured the economic challenges of 2009, we conducted another online survey in February 2010 as both a point of comparison and as a tool for forecasting future needs and concerns. We again share this survey report in hopes of sparking meaningful conversations and thoughtful giving that will strengthen both the nonprofit sector and this community as a whole.

Charitable organizations say poor economy still a concern

Our second Survey of Nonprofits and the Economy -- completed in February 2010 by 152 charitable organizations in our service region -- shows that the economy continues to pose a challenge for charitable organizations. Many experienced back-to-back years of increased demand for services while funding decreased.

The good news is most took proactive steps such as cutting expenses, reducing staff positions or using cash reserves to remain viable. We invite you to read our Survey of Nonprofits and the Economy 2010 report.
